so, here i am home alone, my middle sister is also home alone, sadly we are on opposite sides of yorkshire, otherwise we could be home alone together and have a cup of tea and cake and a good natter.
my husband has gone to watch the turkiye v albania match, he has been asleep for the best part of 24 hours so is feeling marginally better than he was. turns out turkiye have to win tonight just to get to the play offs for next years world cup, whereas england are, apparently, already through thanks to someone losing on saturday - isn't that just typical? meric has gone to the shop to help set it up and answer the phone etc. menekse is at horseriding for a little while longer, then meric is going swimming and i am staying at home to watch The Match, menekse will be at the shop so i will be home alone until 8.30ish
i am making good use of the time by catching up on my blog (obviously, had to put that in or you would know i was lying, lol), doing some stuff for the silk route club, playing a computer game i have that drives me crazy and perhaps doing some sewing whilst listening to the audio bible or a sermon. i just feel like chilling out. i went to buy a bed today at argos, on 9 months interest free, it took the woman so long to sort it out i ran out of time so didn't get it in the end, technology is so wonderful, especially when it is designed to make life easier. i felt so stressed by the experience i took meric and i out for lunch.
i forgot to mention the other day that i have finally and really given up being the swimming club secretary, i handed everything over last friday, i do miss the photocopier, but apart from that i feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted from my shoulders. what a relief, i didn't realise how much of my life it took up and what a burden it was. i am not that confident that the new secretary will be able to do the whole job, she works full time, but we shall see, i am not getting sucked back in anyway, not even for the sake of the photocopier. i will still do the officiating for them, i am currently almost qualified as a starter, just got the practical to do, i am thinking that if i can get some experience timekeeping etc at the yorkshires or whatever i might go for the referees course, but it means a weekend away at loughborough, and realistically am i going to carry on being involved with swimming once meric finishes? probably not until i have grandchildren or if lovely niece carries on and does competitve stuff, but even that is a long way off. the problem is i do feel guilty for not being the secretary anymore, i know how hard it is to get anyone to do anything, volunteers are becoming thinner and thinner on the ground, there was no scouts last week because there was no warranted leader to supervise. it seems that parents just want to dump their kids and get on with their own lives.
which brings me to a bit of a rant.
what is it with parents and their kids these days? when we first started homeschooling, 6 years ago, the most common comment (apart from the ubiquitious 'what about socialisation') was 'don't know how you can even think about it, i couldn't stand to be with my kids all day' - WHAT? why bother having them then? and then it seems like once the child is here parents are champing at the bit to get it into school or something to get rid of it so they can go back to work or carry on with their social life. in almost every other country in the world children stay with their parents until they are around 7, school doesnt start until then, so why do we pack ours off at about 3, i'll tell you why, the government want to get their minds, they want a generation of malleable kids who will toe the party line. then of course once they are at school we just get the kids involved in as many activities as possible so that all they have to do is come home and go to bed, seems like alot of parents don't even feed their kids properly (and i know, we have a kebab shop!! not that there is anything wrong with a kebab, its actually pretty healthy, but every night?). and, parents will fork out huge amounts of money to amuse their kids just as long as the parent doesnt have to put any effort in, its unbelieveable to me and i wonder about the future of our nation. the church i go to is pretty small, but we do have a childrens meeting, its once a week on a monday for one hour, its free, we also do sunday school for 45 minutes on sunday mornings, again its free. we can't get kids into either of the meetings for love nor money, parents are quite happy to spend spend spend keeping their kids amused in this life, amused and away from them, but they don't want their kids to know what to do about eternity. we have about 6 girls that come on monday evenings and what they know about the Lord Jesus Christ could be written on the back of a stamp - they don't even know the Christmas story properly and they are supposed to learn that at school, but of course school is too busy appeasing the minority (and i can say this because i am married to a minority) and teaching them about islam etc. i wonder if parents who don't want their kids to come to bible club/sunday school realise that those same kids are learning all about islam and what a wonderful religion it is at school? after all, in case some people have forgotten, this is still supposed to be a Christian Nation.
grrr. well, i am feeling a little light headed after that rant, i think i will go and do one of my other jobs. see you later.
that means we will be without any internet connection again for a few days and i will lose everything, still worse things happen at sea.
i then switched to ITV. now, i know that the bbc has a tremendous government bias, anyone with half a brain can see it clearly. but what happened next took my breath away. the lead story on ITV was the 82 year old chap getting shamefully manhandled from the balcony at the labour party conference for shouting out 'nonsense' during jack straws speech
, so i didn't get him up early, menekse though got herself up early and did all her school work so that she could go up to the stable yard for the afternoon. we had just got nicely settled with our tea/coffee and bibles etc, when my little sister rang. i haven't talked to her for ages so we had a lovely long chat, i am very excited that they are moving closer to us. i could hear my lovely niece in the background, she is 50 weeks old!! i can't believe it, and i still can't believe how much i love her!! my sister and the baby are coming at the weekend, along with our other, little, sister (who is actually 26!!) and menekses friend from york, they are coming over for menekses birthday, rather belated, but people were away etc. we are all going to see pride and prejudice on friday night, well, i am hoping to go, we are going to leave the baby with meric all being well, if she seems unsettled i will stay home with her. then menekse and her friend are going up to the yard on saturday morning, my sisters are going up at 1 p.m. and they are all going out on a trek and i get to watch my lovely niece sleep (hee hee, or not
but no doubt she is having a great time and will, i am sure, be thinking about us all.
anyway, the stress was just too much so i resigned, and thankfully someone else has been pressganged into doing it. my husband is relieved bless him, and i am trying to make the stress in my life somewhat less so that i don't feel so awful for so much of the time. i am also trying to change the way i eat but we won't go down that particular avenue just now. the demands of homeschooling are increasing as the children grow older and also for the first time ever i am helping my husband in our shop so that we can save money on wages. i feel pretty good about that. i am also doing the childrens meeting on monday evenings at church, its nervewracking and we keep praying for more children, we will have to see how it goes.
but before i go back to the original story, the bishop kindly emailed me back and told me that christians like me made him depressed, poor guy -i mean, imagine being the chief exec of a company with no faith in its product? how could you do the job?
which with no piano and so many away was not that good. who am i kidding, it was terrible
